Things will return to normal after a while. My suggestion is to get what you need now for home and self-defense, no matter the cost. About $50 should get you set with about 40 rounds of jhp.
I’ve read where some people are finding okay prices by purchasing in store.
Also, I’ve seen where some people are occasionally finding okay prices by placing orders with Cabela’s (and some other big box stores) online
Then get what you need as you go out to practice.
Caveats
1) Most gun owners believe that any new gun should be broken in with some minimum round count between 100 and 500 total rounds.
2) Some experts recommend putting a minimum of 100 rounds of jhp through your gun to be certain that it can properly cycle jhp before depending on that gun to save your life.
3) There’s at least one expert who says you want to get 100 rounds of your chosen jhp ammo through your gun flawlessly before depending on it for your life (flawlessly means all 100 rounds go through with zero failures).
