Of the 40,000 firearm related deaths each year, only about 7000 are criminal homicides. The others are suicides and justifiable shootings by police and law abiding citizens. As far is keeping children safe, children are safer in school than at anywhere else in the country including their own homes. The chance of a child being shot in a school shooting is only 4/1000ths of 1 percent. In fact, firearm related homicides in schools ranks only fifth on the list of all such criminal homicide in our schools. Why not tackle the larger killers first, Or at least get the media to start reporting on them. We need some perspective on this issue and part of that perspective is the fact that there are 330 million people in the country. If there was a mass shooting every hour of every day, it still would not be an epidemic against the background of that many people.
